When taking a patient’s sexual history, it’s important to remain objective, nonjudgmental, and confidential. Each of the following sets of questions represents an element of the CDC’s 5P’s of the sexual history EXCEPT:
a. Practices: Which body parts (and objects) are involved when the patient engages in sexual activity? How does the patient meet partners? Does the patient engage in transactional sex? Are alcohol or other substances involved?
b. Pattern: How often per week/month is the patient engaging in sexual activity?
c. Past History: Has the patient ever been tested for or diagnosed with an STI? Are there any specific tests that the patient requests?
d. Partners: What is the number and gender of sexual partners?

Answer: B. When taking a patient’s sexual history, the CDC recommends the 5P’s to ensure that the history is both thorough and systematic. In addition to Partners, Practices, and Past History, information on use of Protection and Pregnancy intention should also be sought.
